Judicial probe launched into death of 2 girls in Lahore police custody

A judicial inquiry has been opened in Lahore, Pakistan, into the deaths of two underage girls who died in police custody on August fourth. Per Dawn, the girls—Amina and Anmol—were arrested on suspicion of theft and held at the Township police station for approximately two-and-a-half hours before emergency services were called at six PM. Both were pronounced dead at Jinnah Hospital. While police claim the girls died of drug overdose, their families have demanded an impartial investigation, as what exactly occurred during their custody remains unclear. The judicial inquiry is expected to examine custody transfers, available footage, witness statements, and postmortem findings to determine the circumstances.
