Israel and Lebanon expected to sign framework agreement

world

A diplomatic milestone: after four days of talks in Washington mediated by the Trump administration, Israel and Lebanon will sign a framework agreement on Friday. According to Axios, the deal lays out a roadmap to eventual peace and includes immediate military steps. Specifically, Israel will withdraw from small occupied areas of southern Lebanon in two pilot projects—one north of the Litani River and one south. The Lebanese army will move in to those zones. This is Israel's first withdrawal since it expanded its occupation of southern Lebanon. But here's the caveat: success depends on Hezbollah's cooperation, and that remains uncertain.
