AI boosting cybercrime in Africa, warns Interpol

According to Semafor, Interpol is warning that artificial intelligence is fueling cybercrime across Africa. In the organization's new report, AI enabled fifty-five percent of reported cybercrimes on the continent in twenty twenty-five, with identity theft, phishing, and online blackmail among the most common attacks. Business email compromise scams have caused the most financial damage, and the report warns that AI is enabling criminals to conduct scalable, automated, and highly targeted attacks at massive scale. The challenge is compounded by understaffed and under-equipped government agencies across many African countries, while the continent's main cybersecurity framework — adopted in twenty fourteen — remains unevenly implemented.
