The Source: Where Curiosity Sparks Discovery

The Library of Congress has opened The Source, an interactive gallery designed to turn history research from abstract and daunting into tangible and engaging for young people. Developed over seven years with nearly thirty youth advisers and over forty teen interns shaping the vision, the four-zone space invites visitors ages eight to fifteen to explore primary sources hands-on — pulling open drawers that trigger animations and sounds, using replica microfilm readers, following research boxes that trace historians' journeys. Per the Library, the gallery encourages kids to ask questions, draw their own conclusions and discover history as active investigators using high-quality reproductions and digital tools. It marks a shift in how research is introduced, transforming what can feel overwhelming into something personal and achievable.
