Brazilian navy enters Argentina for joint exercise amid diplomatic crisis

Argentina and Brazil are moving forward with a joint naval exercise, despite being embroiled in one of the worst diplomatic crises between the two countries in recent history. According to Buenos Aires Herald, the Argentine government authorized Brazilian naval forces to enter its territorial waters for the Fraterno XXXIX exercise, scheduled to begin August thirteenth at naval bases in Puerto Belgrano and Mar del Plata. The authorization comes after Brazilian President Lula removed his ambassador from Buenos Aires in response to repeated insults from Argentine President Javier Milei, who has called the Brazilian leader corrupt and a thief. The exercise, an annual tradition since nineteen seventy-eight, underscores how military relationships between the two countries can transcend political friction. Brazil will send the submarine Humaitá for its first international deployment.
