Thousands of young job-seekers in Jharkhand staged a major protest over alleged irregularities in India's civil service recruitment exams. Per The Guardian, demonstrators say authorities have failed to tackle problems in the recruitment process for these coveted government positions. As the weeks-long protest escalated into a march on the state legislature in Ranchi, police responded with water cannons, tear gas, and batons. Some of the protesters danced and cheered despite being drenched by jets of water.
