Rock star Pity Alvarez goes on trial for murder
world
A murder trial finally opened this week for Cristian "Pity" Álvarez, the former frontman of Argentine rock bands Viejas Locas and Intoxicados, over the 2018 killing of Cristian Maximiliano Díaz in Buenos Aires. Prosecutors say Álvarez shot Díaz four times after accusing him of theft, while Álvarez has argued he acted out of fear for his own life. The case was suspended for years over questions about his mental fitness to stand trial, but judges pointed to his recent return to touring and public appearances as evidence he's now capable of facing court, the Buenos Aires Herald reports. The first hearing lasted two hours before adjourning until Wednesday.
