Researchers have developed a self-healing polymer composite that combines vibration damping with strain sensing. Per Phys.org, the material uses a thermoplastic polyurethane matrix containing molecular units that form reversible hydrogen bonds—links that can break and then reform. In testing, the composite retained ninety-two percent of its sensing response after ten thousand strain cycles, suggesting the material could maintain reliable performance through repeated stress.
