‘Have a great day’: School 51 welcomes students to the new year with cheers and high fives

James Russell Lowell Montessori School 51 in Indianapolis opened Monday with three hundred fifty students from pre-K through fifth grade, greeted by staff with cheers, high-fives, and a therapy dog named MJ. Per Chalkbeat, Principal Christine Rembert deliberately created that warm scene amid broader changes at Indianapolis Public Schools, saying that when adults build belonging, students pick up on that feeling. The school is backing that philosophy with a twenty-five thousand dollar literacy grant from United Way to expand reading instruction across all grades.
