Mississippi State basketball icon Kermit Davis Sr. has died at 91

Mississippi Sports Hall of Famer Kermit Davis Sr. died Monday in Tupelo at 91, surrounded by family, Mississippi Today reports. He led Walnut High School to a state championship in 1954 before becoming the first player Babe McCarthy recruited to Mississippi State, where he later coached the Bulldogs to SEC Coach of the Year honors in 1971. His son, Kermit Davis Jr., went on to win the same SEC award at Ole Miss in 2019, forty-eight years later.
