Food safety crisis deepens for Taylor Farms with salmonella outbreak
health
Taylor Farms, a major produce supplier to chains like Walmart, Target, Chipotle and Taco Bell, is facing overlapping food safety crises. The FDA has tied 345 salmonella cases, including 36 hospitalizations, to jalapeños from a supplier the company has since dropped, while a separate outbreak has linked over six thousand three hundred cyclospora cases to its iceberg lettuce. Axios reports the company says it wasn't aware of illnesses tied to its own products and invests more than two hundred million dollars a year in food safety, but critics point to a pattern that includes a 2024 E. coli outbreak tied to its onions. Food safety advocates say the recurring incidents could push retailers and restaurants to reconsider their supplier relationships.
