APOD: 2026 August 11 – Six Moons of Saturn

NASA Science shared a striking telescopic portrait of six of Saturn's largest moons. The ringed gas giant has two hundred ninety-three confirmed moons, as NASA Science notes—more than any other planet, easily outpacing Jupiter's mere one hundred fifteen. Titan, the largest, measures five thousand one hundred fifty kilometers across—actually dwarfing Earth's Moon and even slightly surpassing the size of the planet Mercury. Five other major icy moons are also visible in the image: Mimas, Tethys, Enceladus, Dione, and Rhea. Titan was discovered in sixteen fifty-five by Dutch astronomer Christiaan Huygens, and the space probes Voyager and Cassini have since revealed countless smaller moonlets orbiting Saturn.
