Israel withholding 1,700 Palestinian bodies for future exchange deals

Israel is withholding the bodies of roughly seventeen hundred Palestinians for potential use in future exchange deals, even though Hamas is not currently holding any Israeli captives, according to Haaretz. Middle East Eye reports the figure was raised during recent discussions among senior Israeli officials. Israeli law permits the practice, but international humanitarian law requires that the dead be treated with dignity and given an honorable burial.
