Karachi youth jailed for one year for ‘spreading false, fabricated information’ on social media to ‘incite violence’
world
Per Dawn, a Karachi court has convicted a young man of spreading false information on social media to incite violence. Muhammad Ibrahim, aged 26 or 27, had run a social media account that posted content calling for arson attacks on oil tankers during a protest by a Sindhi nationalist party. The magistrate sentenced him to one year imprisonment under Pakistan's Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act, but released him on probation instead, finding that imprisoning a first-time offender would undermine rehabilitation. Ibrahim is now under probation supervision for one year and bound by a surety bond of one hundred thousand rupees.
