Téa Obreht on Writing a Layered, Intertextual Tale of the American West

Author Téa Obreht—who won the Orange Prize at twenty-five for her debut novel The Tiger's Wife—has released a new book called Sunrise, according to Literary Hub. It's a layered Western crime novel that spirals across three timelines: eighteen eighty-two, two thousand three, and two thousand twenty-four, weaving together multiple characters and mysteries. The novel opens with a striking image: a woman falling from a small aircraft into a lake more than four hundred feet deep. Obreht tells Literary Hub the book grew from three separate, unfinished stories that ultimately converged in the fictional Wyoming ghost town of Sunrise.
