Phys.org reports that all living cells—from bacteria to neurons—use the same basic molecular machinery to read and interpret their DNA. Because this machinery is so fundamental to life, it's long been a target for drugs: disrupting it shuts down bacteria's access to their own genes, killing them quickly.
