Running DOOM on a Cheap 104-in-One Handheld

tech

Per Hackaday, hardware hacker Aaron Christophel has disassembled a pair of ultra-cheap handheld gaming systems. Both contain an unmarked ARM microcontroller running at just sixty-two megahertz — far slower than the typical one hundred ninety-four megahertz. With only four megabytes of flash storage and no audio capability, the hardware is heavily constrained. Yet Christophel is working to get DOOM running on them anyway, taking advantage of each device's three-hundred-twenty-by-two-hundred-forty-pixel display and ample button selection.
