A coral among the stars: New species discovered on Costa Rica's deep-sea seamounts

A new coral species discovered by scientists exploring deep-sea seamounts off Costa Rica is so genetically unique that an entirely new taxonomic family was required for its classification. The bright yellow, tree-like coral inhabits the Pacific at depths of three hundred sixty to five hundred twenty-nine meters. Per Phys.org, the discovery was published in the open-access journal ZooKeys.
