Guetlein: CR Could Stop Golden Dome Due to Funding Mechanism

politics

A continuing resolution to start the new fiscal year could devastate Golden Dome, the Pentagon's missile defense program—and Payload Space reports a structural flaw is to blame. Congress funded Golden Dome with twenty-four billion dollars in fiscal twenty twenty-six through a special reconciliation bill, not the standard defense budget. That means the program has no prior-year spending baseline if a continuing resolution freezes funding at last year's levels. Gen. Michael Guetlein, the program's director, told the Space and Missile Defense Symposium on Tuesday the implications are stark: zero dollars without a fix. Both chambers are working on alternatives, but the clock is ticking.
