Stops Along the Path of Totality

Today brings a total solar eclipse with a far narrower path than the twenty twenty-four eclipse that crossed North America. According to NASA Science, totality begins in the Arctic and cuts through northern Russia, eastern Greenland, and Iceland—specifically, around the glacier-capped Snæfellsjökull volcano on the Snæfellsnes peninsula, which will see totality around five forty-five p.m. local time. The shadow then races across the North Atlantic, reaching northern Spain shortly before sunset. NASA Science notes that observers in Spain have historically better odds of clear skies in August, making it the better bet for viewing; a much broader partial eclipse will be visible across Europe, Africa, Canada, and the northern U.S.
