Victorian microparty MPs including Georgie Purcell to face re-election struggle after group voting tickets abolished

Victoria's parliament has abolished group voting tickets, a system that allowed voters to choose just one party above the line and have that party allocate their preferences if knocked out during the count. Per The Guardian, the change will make it significantly harder for microparty MPs like Georgie Purcell to retain their seats in the upper house — voters will now have to rank at least five parties themselves. The bill passed the legislative council thirty-three to four.
