Decline in IQ linked to frequent or dependent use of cannabis use in youth

A new meta-analysis published in Psychological Medicine reveals a link between frequent cannabis use in youth and measurable IQ decline. Researchers reviewed longitudinal studies tracking cognitive development in adolescents and found that dependent cannabis users showed the largest decreases in IQ scores. The effect was most pronounced during critical brain development years, suggesting early heavy use may have lasting cognitive consequences.
