Scoop: Powerful Anthropic model, Fable 5, on track to return soon

Anthropic's most powerful AI model, Fable 5, is about to come back online. According to Axios, the Trump administration is close to allowing the company to restore access after a fifteen-day blackout due to government security concerns. The company expects access could be lifted as soon as this week, though the Pentagon and National Security Agency still need to give final approval. Fable 5's blackout was unprecedented—a top-tier model already in users' hands was pulled offline by government order. In a sign of broader de-escalation, the Commerce Department has already allowed limited restoration of Anthropic's Mythos 5, a specialized cybersecurity model with built-in safeguards against misuse. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick said Anthropic has worked positively with the government to address security risks and has committed to developing new protocols and standards. The situation marks a thaw in a four-month standoff. It's still unclear whether subscribers will regain their promised free access to Fable 5, or whether it returns with additional fees or identity checks.
