How Trump’s Unprecedented Effort to Prosecute Noncitizen Voters Fell Apart

Per ProPublica's investigation, the Trump administration's push to prosecute noncitizen voters has fallen far short of its ambitions. Federal agents with Homeland Security Investigations referred fewer than one hundred fifty alleged noncitizen voters for prosecution between January twenty twenty-five and May twenty twenty-six, with only forty-one charged with voting illegally or related crimes. In emails reviewed by ProPublica, Minnesota's U.S. Attorney described the operation as dysfunctional despite intense pressure from Washington. The administration has claimed noncitizens are tipping elections, but studies and audits consistently find such voting to be exceedingly rare.
