Show HN: Adrafinil – keep a lid-closed Mac awake only while agents work
dev_tools
Hacker News users are sharing Adrafinil, an open-source tool that solves a surprisingly common problem: keeping MacBooks awake while AI agents work. The issue has become visible enough that engineers have been spotted in coffee shops and parks balancing their laptops half-open—a workaround to prevent sleep mode from interrupting their agents. Adrafinil detects when an AI agent from Claude Code or similar platforms is active and automatically prevents the MacBook from sleeping, even with the lid closed. Once the agent finishes, the app lets the laptop rest again. For safety, it monitors temperature and will allow sleep if the machine overheats. The tool is fully open source under MIT license, with all binaries notarized and signing handled by an unprivileged process.
