US and Iran trade strikes as both sides accuse the other of endangering ceasefire
world
According to The Guardian, the US military escalated tensions with Iran earlier today with fresh strikes on Iranian military targets. This follows a previous US strike responding to a drone attack on a cargo ship in the Strait of Hormuz. The new American strikes targeted Iranian military surveillance systems, communications infrastructure, air defense installations, drone storage facilities, and minelayer capabilities. US Central Command characterized the action as a direct response to what it called continued Iranian aggression against commercial shipping in the region. The strikes come amid broader negotiations between Washington and Tehran over a memorandum aimed at ending a war both nations describe as unpopular.
