A report on age-verification technology for Australia's social media ban contains citations to academic articles that do not exist, according to Guardian analysis. The trial — a three point four eight million dollar effort by the UK-based Age Check Certification Scheme — tested various technologies social media platforms could use to enforce the ban on users under sixteen. The report's authors admit they used ChatGPT for editing, but deny the citation errors were caused by AI.
