Labor pledges opt-out register for online gambling ads akin to Do Not Call register for spam calls
politics
Australia's communications minister Anika Wells has announced the Labor government will create a national opt-out register for gambling advertisements — similar to the Do Not Call list for spam. Per The Guardian, the register is part of amendments to the wagering ad bill and will be funded by a new levy on gambling companies. The policy also restricts promotional inducements and limits commissions for agents. It falls short of calls for an opt-in system or outright ban, but addresses Senate concerns that Australians struggle to find and complete individual opt-outs on each online service.
