Mark J. Wielaard has received the Software Freedom Conservancy's second annual Distinguished Service Award in Software Freedom, as LWN.net reports, honoring his years of service to open-source projects. Wielaard maintains Sourceware—the oldest FOSS collaboration and developer infrastructure hosting site in history—and also maintains Valgrind and elfutils while serving on the DWARF Debugging Standard Committee. His career demonstrates how employer-funded open-source work and after-hours volunteer contributions combine to sustain key FOSS infrastructure.
