A rare whole life tariff has been handed down to Simon Levy, a registered sex offender with a history of offending dating back to twenty eighteen, for the murders of two women, Carmenza Valencia-Trujillo and Sheryl Wilkins. The Guardian reports that sentencing remarks noted Levy targeted women in sex work specifically because he believed he could get away with it. The case has renewed scrutiny of how the justice system protects — or fails to protect — some of the most vulnerable women from violence.
