The Maltese Version

Literary Hub has published an excerpt from a short story called 'The Maltese Version.' It follows Leonie and Max, a couple living in Chicago whose relationship has begun to fray. Max is working on a mysterious manuscript written in Maltese—a language Leonie doesn't speak—and he's just been offered an opportunity: spend a month on Malta translating for a poet who's about to achieve international acclaim. Leonie discovers this opportunity and confronts an uncomfortable truth: while they once traveled the world together, her career is now in decline and his is still climbing. When Max invites her to join him in Malta, the story doesn't reveal her answer. It's a portrait of two people living under the same roof while slowly moving in different directions.
