Arctic Report Card Will Move Ahead Without NOAA

science

Eos reports that NOAA has withdrawn its financial and logistical support for this year’s Arctic Report Card, meaning it will not provide coordinating editors, peer‑review management, or fund the report’s web presence and graphics. Despite that, the report’s editors, led by University of Alaska Fairbanks scientist Rick Thoman, have decided to press on, tapping support from individual scientists, organizations and the Arctic Monitoring and Assessment Programme, which will handle the peer review. The Arctic Report Card, an annual peer‑reviewed assessment of the warming Arctic, is slated to be released at a press conference during the December AGU Annual Meeting in San Francisco, and the team is working on a new non‑NOAA website to host it.
