Democratic socialist Angie Nixon clinches nomination for Florida US Senate seat, in surprise primary win for progressives

The Guardian reports that progressive state representative Angie Nixon secured the Democratic nomination for Florida’s U.S. Senate seat, defeating former army intelligence officer Alexander Vindman. Despite raising only nine hundred seventy‑five thousand dollars compared with Vindman’s sixteen point three million dollars by the end of July, Nixon pulled off what the paper calls an upset for the party establishment. She now turns her attention to the November general election, where she will face Republican Ashley Moody.
