Senegal's first elite girls' boarding school challenges patriarchal norms

According to France 24, off the coast of Dakar, Goree Island is home to Senegal’s first elite boarding school for girls, the Mariama Ba School of Excellence. The school encourages its students to challenge traditional expectations of girls in a predominantly Muslim West African nation and reports a 100% completion rate, enrolling 35 students with tuition and board fully state‑funded each year. The school opened this year, offering a new model for empowering young women in the country.
