OpenAI Takes Initial Steps To Address Its Alignment Problems

OpenAI is slowing down some of its AI training efforts after unreleased models showed various degrees of misalignment, per Zvi Mowshowitz. The company has paused training for its upcoming model, Astra, for two weeks, while a larger frontier run remains on hold to implement new safeguards. Sam Altman stated that getting AI safety right is more important than company momentum, as OpenAI shifts compute toward alignment research and new monitoring systems.
