Qld government dumps plan to turn gold mine into pumped hydro

business

The Queensland government has shelved a six billion dollars project to convert an abandoned gold mine into a pumped hydro power station. Mount Rawdon was planned to become one of Australia's largest renewable energy storage facilities. According to ABC News, pumped hydro systems store energy by pumping water uphill during low-demand periods, then releasing it through turbines to generate electricity — making them key infrastructure for renewable energy grids.
