According to PBS NewsHour, the Federal Trade Commission proposed a policy on Wednesday that would require retailers to be transparent about personalized pricing. Under the proposal, companies that secretly vary prices based on how much they think individual customers will pay could face federal charges. Personalized pricing, a common practice in online retail, uses customer data to set different prices for different shoppers.
