Govt saves face after ‘low-quorum start’ in National Assembly

politics

After a shaky start with too few ministers present, the National Assembly finally reached quorum and pressed on with most of its agenda, Dawn reports. Seven bills were tabled and eight reports laid, while brief appearances by Bilawal Bhutto‑Zardari, Maulana Fazlur Rehman and Hamza Shehbaz Sharif punctuated the proceedings. Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Tariq Fazal Chaudhry said pirates are demanding three million dollars for ten Pakistani sailors, and the government is reluctant to pay lest it invite more kidnappings. The session resumed after a recount, allowing the business to continue despite the earlier walkout.
