'Breakthrough' mRNA cancer drug curbs melanoma in large trial

France 24 reports that US drugmakers Merck and Moderna announced Wednesday a personalized mRNA treatment reduced the recurrence of melanoma tumors in a late‑stage trial, a result experts called a breakthrough. Researchers have pursued mRNA approaches for cancer for years, and this is the first time such a drug has shown positive results in a large, late‑stage clinical study.
