British American Tobacco to slash 9,000 jobs as it turns to AI

According to The Guardian, British American Tobacco is cutting nine thousand jobs this year—about one fifth of its workforce—as it pushes to reduce costs and become more 'technology enabled.' Five thousand five hundred positions will be cut directly, with three thousand five hundred more outsourced. The tobacco manufacturer hopes this shift will boost efficiency. BAT is one of the world's largest cigarette makers.
