First Thing: Mamdani says socialist allies offer ‘national message’ to US

politics

According to The Guardian, New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani said Sunday that the democratic socialist candidates he endorsed in recent primary races represent a national message to struggling Americans. His backed candidates won Democratic nominations for three congressional seats in New York and five state legislature positions. Mamdani says they're bringing a New Deal-style politics to Congress and the national stage, speaking to the exhaustion of working people fighting to make ends meet. Fifteen self-described moderate Democrats in the House quickly responded with an open letter, declaring they're capitalist, mainstream, and proud of America—a thinly veiled shot at Mamdani's faction. Separately, the Supreme Court's decision to end Temporary Protected Status for Haitians and Syrians will now affect an estimated three hundred fifty thousand Haitian and six thousand Syrian immigrants, who face potential detention or deportation by ICE. The U.S. granted TPS to Haitians after the twenty-ten earthquake and to Syrians following their country's civil war in twenty-twelve.
