The Black Robin and the Power of Tenacious Tenderness: How a Single Mother Brought an Entire Species Back from the Brink of Extinction

science

According to The Marginalian, a single female black robin called Old Blue, nearly fourteen years old, became the linchpin for rescuing her species from extinction. After seven birds survived on New Zealand’s shores, conservationists moved them to Mangere Island, tried several foster parents, and finally returned the chicks to Old Blue, who raised eleven offspring. Today, roughly 250 black robins exist, a living testament to tenacious tenderness.
