Search continues for 22 after bulk carrier sinks off India
world
Dawn reports that India's Coast Guard and Navy are still conducting search‑and‑rescue operations off the eastern coast after a Panama‑flagged cargo vessel sank on Friday. The ship, the Ocean Winner, was carrying twenty four crew members and listed before sinking in about eight minutes, forcing the crew to abandon ship. Two Chinese seafarers were rescued, while twenty two crew members – eighteen Chinese, three Myanmar and one Bangladeshi – remain missing. The vessel capsized roughly two hundred forty nautical miles from Paradip port while transporting iron ore bound for China, and the cause of the sinking is still unknown. The Coast Guard has deployed two vessels from Port Blair, and despite the generally sharp drop in survivor odds after twelve hours, rescuers say the search will continue.
