During World War Two, dentist Lytle Adams submitted a proposal to President Franklin Delano Roosevelt: equip millions of bats with tiny incendiary devices and drop them over Japanese cities. According to Boing Boing, Adams positioned this as retaliation for Pearl Harbor—and remarkably, the President apparently found the idea worth considering. It's a strange footnote in military history: an eccentric dentist nearly convinced President Roosevelt that the secret to winning the war flew on wings.
