Researchers have programmed yeasts to convert agricultural waste and PET plastic into flavoring molecules and edible proteins. As Phys.org tells it, this process was used to create protein-rich cookies from trash. The technology could potentially provide a way to sustain human life during deep-space missions or in disaster zones.
