‘We don’t need Canada’: Trump threatens to double auto tariffs after trade talks collapse
politics
France 24 reports that President Donald Trump announced on Monday a plan to raise U.S. tariffs on all Canadian cars, trucks, automotive parts and steel to fifty percent, effective January first, twenty twenty‑seven. He added that the United States does not need Canada after trade talks collapsed over the weekend. The higher duties are expected to increase costs for consumers and could strain the cross‑border auto industry.
