Meteorite dust holds records of magnetism that may have helped form the sun
science
Researchers may have found a missing piece of the puzzle regarding how our solar system began. MIT News reports that scientists analyzing ancient meteorite dust discovered evidence of a powerful magnetic field that existed roughly four point six billion years ago. By studying microscopic grains from a meteorite found in Antarctica, the team determined this field was three to twelve times stronger than Earth's current magnetic field. The findings suggest that while gravity was a primary force, magnetism likely helped pull primordial matter together to form the early sun.
