My AI Syllabus Policy

In a post on LessWrong, philosophy professor Vaughn Papenhausen shares his AI policy for the semester, arguing that large language models have evolved from calculators to personal tutors. He encourages students to use AI for learning — asking questions, brainstorming, and research — but forbids using it to complete assignments. To enforce that, he'll run submissions through the AI detector Pangram, which claims a false positive rate below one in ten thousand, and he asks students to keep their chat logs as evidence. He also notes that AI skills are currently 'spiky,' so students still need to learn how to supervise the technology.
