Colombia’s new president Abelardo de la Espriella announces immigration crackdown

Colombia's new far-right president, Abelardo de la Espriella, has ordered authorities to detain and deport immigrants in the country irregularly or with criminal records. The Guardian reports the crackdown was announced just over two weeks into his term, as Colombia continues recovering from a magnitude seven point four earthquake on August tenth that killed more than three hundred people and destroyed over thirty thousand homes.
