Wasi: WebGPU – A Proposed WebAssembly System Interface API

tech

WebAssembly is getting a GPU upgrade. The WebAssembly community is proposing WASI-WebGPU, a new standard interface that would let WebAssembly code directly access GPU hardware. Currently under discussion on Hacker News, the proposal could enable more demanding workloads—machine learning, scientific computing, real-time graphics—to run efficiently within browsers and other WebAssembly runtimes. If adopted, it represents a meaningful step toward making WebAssembly a genuine platform for compute-heavy applications.
